Springhill Farms lowlines

Springhill Farms is owned by Dave and Corinna
Hill. We are located north of Brownstown, IL
overlooking the Kaskaskia River bottom.

While I didn’t grow up on a farm, God has given
me a love of farming and particularly cattle.
Corinna and I have been in the registered Angus
cattle business for more than 10 years, we
decided in 2008, after much research, and some
prodding from Corinna’s father, to change the
cattle we were raising to Lowline Angus.

We bought our first 15 head of full blood Lowlines
in June, and brought them home in October after
weaning their calves. The nature of the Lowlines
has won our hearts over. They are such good
natured, easy going cows. Even the new herd bull
EZ Magic 8s has such a good temperament.

We have some very nice cattle and are looking
forward to increasing our quality with the addition
of Magic to our herd. We believe that lowliness
are not just a fad but real cattle that will turn out to
be profitable for not only the small farmer, but also
the commercial cattle industry. We believe that
Lowlines are not only a good investment in the
near term, but also a very good long term
investment.

Corinna, our 3 kids, Shad, Abby, Molly, and
myself invite you to call or stop by to see our
cattle.

We give all the praise, honor and glory to

God and his son Jesus

What Is Lowline Angus Cattle?

Lowline Angus cattle were developed from 1974
by the Trangie Agricultural Research Centre in
Australia.

The research was on the effects of genetic
selection for growth rate to yearling age.
Groups of Angus cattle with high and low
growth rates were bred separately and
compared with a randomly selected control
group.

These groups were known as "High Line","Low
Line" and "Control Line".

The original stock were imported from Canada
in 1929, with some Scottish and USA animals
added in subsequent years.

When the experiment ended in 1992 the
Lowline herd was sold to private breeders who
formed the Australian Lowline Cattle
Association (ALCA).

Lowline cattle are now bred in Canada,
Australia, New Zealand, USA, and China.
